Pulaski County Council Gets Update on Sheriff’s Department Contracts

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is looking to finalize a couple of contracts. An agreement with Motorola for new body cameras, portable radios, and other equipment was approved by the county commissioners earlier this month. Auditor Laura Wheeler told the county council last week that she needs to know where exactly the money is coming from, before the paperwork may be finalized.

“It came late in the game and so you didn’t actually have any particular line item budgeted for the payments that you’re going to make,” she explained. “And so that was what I was wondering because the document that I need to sign basically verifies that, yes, you’ve got the money and it’s accounted for, that kind of thing.” Sheriff Jeff Richwine said he thought it was included in the 2019 911 Fund budget.

He also told the county council that the amendment to the deputies’ retirement plan is still awaiting the review of County Attorney Kevin Tankersley. The council formally approved the change from a 20-year plan to a 32-year plan last month. Council members plan to sign the document, once the county attorney approves it.

In other business last week, the Pulaski County Council reappointed Leona Speece to the Francesville-Salem Township Public Library Board.
