Winamac Town Council members discussed the employee salary ordinance for 2019 when they met last Tuesday.
Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger encouraged the council to make a decision about the ordinance prior to their next meeting since at least one council member will be absent in November.
Clerk-Treasurer Berger reminded the members that the last raise that the council permitted was a $1 raise for 3-years.
At last week’s meeting, a motion was made to include a 50 cent per hour raise for all town employees in the 2019 Salary Ordinance. Members decided to take it one year at a time, rather than spreading a particular pay increase over multiple years.
The motion passed with a vote of 4 to 1. Councilman Alvin Parish abstained from voting on the matter since he has family members who work as town employees.
Clerk-Treasurer Berger noted that a draft ordinance will appear before the council in November and the final draft will be up for adoption in December.
