Amended Golf Cart and Animal-Drawn Vehicle Ordinance Approved by Culver Town Council

An ordinance amending and restating Culver’s current rules regulating the use of golf carts and animal-drawn vehicles operated for business purposes within the town limits came before council members Thursday evening.

The ordinance was considered and approved on first reading earlier this month. During this week’s meeting, Council President Ginny Bess Munroe stated why officials chose to review the existing ordinance.{

She explained, “We worked on this ordinance because the police wanted it to better reflect the actual laws and make them clearer to our patrons who own golf carts or horse-drawn vehicles.”

Munroe provided a brief synopsis of the some of the changes. She noted that one new section was included about open container laws. It specifies that motorists are not permitted to have alcohol beverages in any kind of motorized or animal-drawn vehicle.

Additionally, language was added to include trails into the areas that these types of vehicles are not allowed to be utilized.

The ordinance was passed unanimously on second reading. Next, the rules were waved and the ordinance was considered and approved on final reading.
