The winners of the Light Up North Judson decoration contest will be announced during tonight’s Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Members are also expected to go over the 2019 salary ordinance and discuss the Rich Grove Township Fire Service Contract during tonight’s meeting.
Currently, other townships, such as Jackson and Wayne, are on fixed contracts with the North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, where a flat fee of $10,000 is paid annually. On the other hand, Rich Grove Township has a pay-by-call contract where $660 is paid per call.
Rich Grove ended up paying less than the fixed contract rate in 2016 when they only had 5 calls. However, racking up 46 calls in 2017 resulted in a charge of $30,360.
The township had to remain on a pay-by-call basis in 2018 because their existing contract was for two years. With it now up for renewal, Fire Chief Joe Leszek has been talking with the Township trustee about how officials wish to move forward with the agreement from here on out.
Council members will also revisit the topic of the town’s property and casualty insurance and make appointments for the Kankakee Iroquois Regional Planning Commission as well as the Starke County Economic Development Foundation.
