North Judson Town Council Meets Tonight

The winners of the Light Up North Judson decoration contest will be announced during tonight’s Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Members are also expected to go over the 2019 salary ordinance and discuss the Rich Grove Township Fire Service Contract during tonight’s meeting.

Currently, other townships, such as Jackson and Wayne, are on fixed contracts with the North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, where a flat fee of $10,000 is paid annually. Winamac Town Council Approves Fire Department Contracts

Three township fire department contracts were approved during the Winamac Town Council meeting Monday night.

Town Council president Tom Murray asked if the contracts were the same as last year. Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger confirmed that the contracts remained the same with Franklin Township paying $9,283.92 as an annual service fee, Rich Grove Township has a yearly contract fee of $3,664.38 and the contract for Tippecanoe Township lists a $2,174.42 yearly charge. Open Seats in Pulaski County for 2018 Elections

Wednesday marks the first day a declaration of candidacy may be filed and several Pulaski County positions will be up for election this year.

Seats are open for Circuit Court and Superior Court Judges who each serve 6-year terms. Elections will also be held for the 4-year terms of Prosecuting Attorney, Clerk of Courts, the Sheriff, Assessor, Surveyor, Coroner and Commissioner for District #3. All registered voters can vote for these positions and may also cast a vote for the delegate to State Conventions. Continue reading

North Judson Town Council Permits Fire Chief to Utilize Call Fees for Equipment Purchase

During Monday night’s North Judson Town Council meeting, Fire Chief Joe Leszek told members that the first installment of Rich Grove Township’s call-fees has been submitted.

At the last town council meeting he explained that Rich Grove Township is on a pay-by-call basis where the Township pays $660 per call.

That agreement didn’t present much of an issue when they only had 5 calls in 2016 but this year they had a total of 46 calls, resulting in a charge of $30,360. Leszek said a check for $18,000 was recently sent from Township Trustee Deloris Locke. Locke told him that the remaining $12,360 will be paid after the first of the year. Continue reading
