Redskin Academy Celebrates First Graduates

The Knox School Board got a recap of the Redskin Academy’s first semester last week.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker reported that the alternative high school program had served 37 students over the course of the semester, with enrollment currently sitting at 27. “So the other 10, we had six who simply just couldn’t make it in alternative school either, for one reason or another, discipline issues they had, they were withdrawn,” she explained. “Of course you know, we had one student pass away. But the good news is we have already had three graduates, so we are celebrating. Two are seniors and one’s a super-senior, that we all really cheered when that young man graduated. I will just leave it at that.”

Shidaker said that as of last week, the students had completed 85 courses using the Apex digital learning system. She said two more students are set to join the Redskin Academy next semester, bringing the total expected enrollment to 29.
