The SYSCO property in Hamlet remains vacant, but officials continue to work to get a buyer for the property.
Starke County Councilman Dave Pearman asked Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Larry Wickert about the progress of the sale of the property this week.
“I’ll just say it hasn’t been a dead issue, but there have been reasons why we haven’t been able to move forward,” said Wickert. “January may resolve that.”
He said a potential sale may occur in January.
Pearman has inquired about the SYSCO property throughout the year and has mentioned that the county invested infrastructure and other major items many years ago in order for this venture to happen, but it failed.
If the sale isn’t successful, Wickert said he will entertain ideas from the commissioners on which direction they’d like to see.
