Knox Mayor Dennis Estok discussed the Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program with city council members when they met last week.
In their first meeting in December, city council members authorized a grant application to be submitted for the program which is offered through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).
A last Wednesday’s city council meeting, Estok alerted members that the application was submitted on Monday, December 17th. He anticipates the award announcement to be made within the next two to three months.
The Mayor noted that in the past, applications from residents were accepted in advance but people were let down when the funds did not come through. In order to avoid similar issues this time around, Estok said city officials will not start accepting applications until they receive notification that the grant funds have been received.
Through this program, the IHCDA provides local government units and not-for-profit organizations with grant funding to assist homeowners looking to make necessary repairs and renovations.
According to program officials, the purpose of providing the assistance is to allow citizens to address conditions that would create an issue with the integrity of the house or become a detriment to the residents’ quality of life if they were left unattended.
