The Starke County Council members will meet tonight where they will organize and review the newly approved code of conduct for all council members. Three new council members will attend their first meeting since being elected. Howard Bailey Jr. and Tom DeCola were elected to their seats in the November General Election while Kay Gudeman was selected in a Republican Party caucus to fill the unexpired term of Bryan Cavendar who was elected as a Starke County Commissioner in the November election. They join Dave Pearman and Brad Hazelton who were reelected in the General Election and At-Large members Freddie Baker and Bob Sims.
The 2019 budget and salary ordinance discussions will also be held along with the organization of the Starke County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The remaining appointments to several boards and commissions that require council approval will also be presented.
Other topics include Surveyor Bill Crase’s request to transfer FEMA money, Sheriff Bill Dulin’s suggestion of a change of pay for the Merit Board, and 2019 appointments to the Starke County Economic Development Foundation.
The Starke County Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. followed by a meeting of the Starke County Commissioners.
Sheriff Bill Dulin will talk about updating and adding new county ordinances. He is also expected to have information on the CAD system. Clerk Bernadette Welter Manuel will talk about personnel, and additional appointments will be discussed. A letter of support for the Trails Group will be considered.
The Starke County Council and Starke County Commissioners will meet in the meeting room the Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 E. Mound Street. A single-point of entry into the building is located on lower level of the building the east side facing Pearl Street.
