Knox School Corporation Transportation Director Tara Pitts presented bus bids to the school board members last week.
Pitts recommended the purchase of three diesel 78-passenger Blue Bird buses for $295,789 after trade-in. It wasn’t the lowest bid. The lowest bid came from Integrated Coach (IC). After trade-in, the final bid price was $287,910.
Pitts noted that the mechanics have more maintenance issues with the IC buses currently in the fleet so it creates more problems for them and more problems for the bus drivers. She said Blue Bird produces a more stable, reliable product and recommended that company’s bid.
The school board members approved Pitts’ recommendation with a unanimous vote
Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said the buses will be paid for from available funds out of the school corporation’s newly created Operations Fund.
