Winamac Town Council Reorganizes for 2019

Winamac Town Council members welcomed a new member and reorganized for 2019 when they met for their first meeting of the year.

Dave Schambers attended his first meeting as a councilman Monday evening. Schambers and Alvin Parish gathered the most votes in the November General election, beating out Dan Vanaman for the two open at-large council seats.

During their meeting, members held elections for the president and vice president positions.

There were two nominations for president; James Watkins nominated Tom Murray and Judy Heater put her name in the running. Murray gathered the most votes and was reappointed to the position of president. Members also voted to keep James Watkins as the Vice President.

When it comes to department head positions there were only two changes. Members made a motion for Mark Hoffman to continuing serving as Town Marshal in 2019. Hoffman replaces former Marshal Mike Buchanan, who retired last year.

Additionally, Barry Day was appointed to the position of Wastewater Foreman, replacing Waylon Burke.

Doug Shorter retained his position as Electric Department Superintendent and Jeremy Beckner stayed on as the Superintendent for the Street and Water Departments.
