The recent winter weather has given Knox school officials a chance to look at what works and what doesn’t, when it comes to eLearning.
Elementary School Principal Michelle Tarnow told the school board Monday that teachers have been listening to parent feedback and tweaking their plans. “We’ve talked about eLearning and we’ve had one or two here and there, but when we had that many in a row, we all got together as a staff in our building, talked about what activities we felt like were the strongest and what we really wanted to use and how many activities is really appropriate,” Tarnow explained. “And we actually made some changes that happened this last eLearning day.”
Middle School Principal Jake Skelly said similar discussions are taking place in his building. He added that one of the challenges is that there are a few families that don’t have Internet access at home, while others lost power during the severe weather. “We’re doing intensive remediation for that, if requested or if needed, which means we’ll take them out of a couple of classes to get them caught up because if they missed everything, if they missed all of that, it’s kind of tough to then go back into class,” Skelly explained. “Or maybe they’re in it for the beginning of class to get that part of the lesson, and then we pull them out to help get them the help to get them caught up.”
Both principals said they’ve been impressed with the effort put in by students, parents, and teachers.
