When Indiana was hit hard with extremely low wind chills and frigid conditions on Wednesday, local authorities received a report of an unresponsive man being found on the ground in Koontz Lake.
The individual was revived at the scene but later passed away.
According to Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin, around 4:30 p.m. on January 30th, officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Koontz Lake Firefighters and Starke County EMS personnel were dispatched to the area of Iroquois and Kickapoo Roads in Koontz Lake.
At the scene, a 49-year-old man was found not breathing, without a pulse. After multiple attempts, first responders were able to regain a pulse and the individual was transported to a Plymouth hospital for further treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office later received information that the person had passed away as a result of a medical situation that is unknown at this time. Sheriff Dulin noted that no foul play was indicated on the scene.
