The West Central School Board members are attempting to free up more time for guidance counselors to spend more time focusing on students rather than state reports and other responsibilities that take away from the students. In fact, they approved the implementation of a Data Test Coordinator position for the 2019-2020 school year.
Superintendent Don Street said the job will be posted and there are several responsibilities in that position.
“It will consist of completing state reports, being the Test Coordinator for Indiana’s required test, and use data and analyze data to provide the information to our teachers and our administrators to help improve our test scores,” explained Street. “This person will also be a Grants Coordinator for Title II, Title III and Title IV High Ability Grant and other grants that would advance or benefit the West Central School Corporation. They’ll also be the Limited English Language Coordinator, they’ll assist teachers and administrators with curriculum development K-12, as well as dual credit, internships, graduation pathways, assist in the development of our master schedule, be the coordinator for suicide prevention in homeless students, and many other responsibilities and duties.”
Those are the duties currently under the direction of the school corporation’s three Guidance Counselors.
Street stressed that it’s always in the best interest of the school corporation to put students first.
“It would provide more time for our Guidance Counselors to work with our students individually on social and emotional issues as well as planning for their future and going through their individual grade. We believe it will be a win-win for our students.”
