The West Central School Board members took time during last week’s meeting to recognize the efforts of the high school music students.
Superintendent Don Street said some musicians in the District Solo and Ensemble competition found success.
“We had three students qualify for the State Solo and Ensemble contest,” said Street. “They are Kaelie Eberhart, Jaden Cords, and Nate Thompson. That hasn’t happened in a while for our students to compete at the state level. We had several students earn gold medals at the district level and we congratulate them. We just really appreciate all of the work that Ms. Straus, our director, is doing with our band and choir programs. They’re really doing outstanding.”
The following students earned gold medals at the District Solo and Ensemble competition: Alexa Schultz, Brooklynn Mellon, Natalie Baran, Adam Stimson, Micah Newbolds, Hunter Schultz, Cambria Schleman, Natalia Ashley, Collin Stalbaum, Emma Taylor and Jocelyn Adams. The following students earned Silver medals: Alex Lynch, Miranda Thompson and Tatum Toosley.
Elementary School Principal Dan Zylstra told the school board members that soloists and choir members recently participated in the ISSMA vocal contest and they took home several medals.
