Winamac Town Council Considers Change Orders for Well Project

Some water project change order items came before Winamac Town Council members for approval during a special session last Monday.

Members met with Midwestern Engineers CEO Mark Sullivan as well as Kevin Madison, the owner of KDM Services and his company’s attorney Nathan Wiz.

KDM submitted a number of different change orders associated with the well project. However, town officials mentioned that a portion of those change orders could be charged to Peerless Midwest since they’re associated with the well drilling.

In order to assist with future billing, the items that could possibly be paid by Peerless Midwest were placed on a separate change order.

Some items that were already purchased at the time of this month’s special session included 60 tons of additional stone for the approved driveway, 6 yards of additional concrete footing and $1,035 dollars worth of course block that is needed to adjust for the grade change of the foundation.

Those items had been discussed and approved by officials at the February meeting but they agreed to include the cost on change order three.

During some of the colder days, a heat tent had to be erected at the north well in order for work to continue.

The cost of that was factored into change order three and so was 40 tons of stone and stone installation, additional granular backfill needed for the north well and the cost to install the granular backfill.

The approximate cost of change order three is about $7,900. Members voted unanimously to approve change order three.

The items that could be billable to Peerless Midwest were listed on change order four.

Those items included equipment and labor for the removal of an access road and pad that had to be built for the new well to be drilled as well as equipment and labor to clean up the granular discharge that was produced by the new well installation.

Those items amounted to $8,850. That change order was unanimously approved, under the condition that it would be further reviewed by Town Manager Brad Zellers.
