Dangerous Trees Removed from Winamac Town Park, As Summer Preparations Continue

Winamac officials are getting the Town Park ready for summer. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo told the park board last week that a few trees that were leaning over the river were pulled onto the bank and removed.

“Jeremy took the town’s loader down there, and it was unable to get the one up out of the water, and we ended up getting help from the County Highway Department to pull those out,” DeLorenzo said. “I guess they’re not as big laying in the water because once we got them on the bank, that was a lot of tree, and once again, the Water and Street Department came down, and we spent pretty much an entire day getting those cut up and hauling it out.”

In the back of the park, DeLorenzo said a large sycamore tree just south of the Community Building was removed by Heims Tree Service. “It was pretty rotten at the bottom, and it was leaning heavy towards the Community Building,” DeLorenzo explained. “So he got it to the ground, and I had help from the Water and Street Department getting that cleaned up and ready to go.” He added that the bushes were removed from the south side of the Community Building, and the town’s Electric Department helped cut down some tree limbs that were hanging over the beef barn.

Meanwhile, new nets have been installed at the Town Park’s pickleball, volleyball, and tennis courts, and the water has been turned on at the concession stand and shelter house.
