Knox Board of Works Discusses Small Claims Cases Against Main Street Property Owner

A problematic property located at 1&3 North Main Street was a topic of discussion when Knox Board of Works members met last week.

Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost reminded members that the order to repair was initially served on December 12th of 2017 and the owner was given until May 25th, 2018 to address the issues.

“Since the last meeting, the side glass along Lake Street has been installed. That’s pretty much it, that’s all that’s been done.”

He continued, “We had the furniture in between that building and [an adjacent] building, he assured me it would be picked up over the weekend and it did not so that’s why we had the street department pick it up and he’ll be billed for that.”

Pfost noted, at that time, that the owner had not been in contact with him to discuss any other progress that’s been made.

The Board of Works has started the small claims process against the owner for not completing the work in a timely manner and failing to pay fines that have been assessed.

The first small claims meeting between the property owner and City Attorney Autumn Ferch will be held on Wednesday, May 15th. The members have also authorized Ferch to start another small claim from the time the first one was implemented up to the present.
