Knox City Council Approves Resolution Related to Sandy Acres Improvement Project

A resolution related to a potential grant intended for improvements at the Sandy Acres Park was approved by Knox City Council members Tuesday evening.

The resolution authorized $215,000 to be appropriated to the Sandy Acres Park Grant fund within the CEDIT account. It also allowed that money to be split up and transferred to two separate line items; $107,500 will go cover expenses related to the grant itself and the other half is set aside for the required match.

Mayor Dennis Estok mentioned that they overestimated the match amount needed just to be on the safe side.

Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston noted that they needed to have this resolution in place because bills for preliminary costs are already coming in.

He explained, “We’ve already spent $1,250 for engineering services and then also there’s been another bill for an environmental study and an archeological survey for $4,420.

Houston added that it’s important to keep track of those expenses because they can go toward the city’s match. Park Board President and City Attorney Autumn Ferch added that any city labor that goes into the project can also be included a part of the match.

Ferch went onto describe some of the improvements that these potential grant funds would cover.

She stated, “We will be installing permanent restrooms at Sandy Acres, a new shelter, blacktopping the parking lot, putting lighting around the parking lot and sidewalks to all amenities at Sandy Acres. Everything will be ADA compliant.”
