A Knox man was sentenced to 12 years in the Department of Corrections after pleading guilty in a plea agreement with the state on a charge of dealing in methamphetamine.
Bradley Austin, 28, admitted in open court that he violated the terms of his probation when he was arrested on another charge and tested positive in a drug screen. He also told Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall that on Oct. 30, 2018 he sold 5.94 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover police agent at a truck stop in Starke County for $350.
Austin was sentenced to 180 days in the Starke County Justice Center on the admission of the probation violation which terminated his probation unsatisfactorily. He was sentenced per the terms of his plea agreement negotiated between his defense attorney and the State of Indiana on the charge of dealing in methamphetamine as a Level 3 Felony which called for 12 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended. Both sentences will be served consecutively.
The court recommends that Austin be able to attend recovery programs set forth by the Indiana Department of Corrections. If he successfully completes the programs, he may request to modify his sentence through Starke Circuit Court.
