The Winamac Park Board has approved an agreement for the inspection of the Town Park’s “swinging bridge.” Indianapolis engineering firm Butler, Fairman & Seufert will do the work for $6,500. That’s a bit more than it cost during the last inspection cycle. During Thursday’s meeting, board member and town manager Brad Zellers said the difference is that this inspection will include a check for lead paint.
The park board still has to find the funding to pay for the work, though. Only $3,000 is budgeted for bridge repairs this year, according to Board President Chris Schramm. Zellers was confident that they could find the rest of the necessary funds elsewhere in the budget and avoid an additional appropriation.
The regular inspection is considered a first step in preparing for the bridge’s centennial in 2023. A new paint job and a decorative lighting feature have been proposed.
In other business Thursday, the Winamac Park Board chose Zehner’s Port-A-Johns as the portable toilet supplier for this year. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo said the company’s quote was for just under $3,200, $300 cheaper than Service Sanitation’s offer.
He said that will include four portable toilets for the summer, in addition to the handicapped one that remains at the park year-round. The town’s park department had been using Johnny on the Spot, which has been acquired by Service Sanitation.
