Bench Trial Scheduled for Main Street Property Owner

A bench trial has been set to address unresolved issues related to the blighted property located at 1&3 N Main Street in the City of Knox.

During Wednesday morning’s Knox Board of Works meeting, City Attorney Autumn Ferch informed the members that she met with the owner of the property Pete Milev on Wednesday, May 15th.

Ferch explained, “We met last week for the small claims hearing. We were unable to come to an agreement on any sort of judgment so it is set for a bench trial.”

She noted that the bench trial has been set for 9 a.m. on Monday, August 12th.

Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost mentioned that from last month to this month, it doesn’t appear that any more work has been done to the exterior of the building.

Pfost previously reported that the order to repair was initially served on December 12th of 2017 and the owner was given until May 25th, 2018 to address the code violations.

Over that period of time, the owner has accrued a number of fines for failing to comply with the order to repair within the specified time frame.
