Hamlet’s Railroad Street project is set to begin soon. Last month, the town council awarded a bid to Mark Milo Enterprises. The town received a Community Crossings grant from the state to cover 75 percent of the cost.
Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told the town council Wednesday that everything is ready to go with the Indiana Department of Transportation. “So I did find out through INDOT that we are allowed to go with our original contractor because the bid amount is under $300,000,” she explained.
Milo told the council that he’s ready to get to work, but he was still waiting for a formal contract. Council members said they’d have project engineer Lee Nagai take care of that.
The project will involve repaving Railroad Street from Jefferson to Starke streets. The road surface will be widened in certain areas, to bring the street to a consistent width.
