La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Issues Update on Death Investigation

Police recently arrested a rural La Porte County man in connection with an ongoing death investigation.

The Criminal Investigations Division of the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office began conducting an investigation into the death of 15-year-old Michael Kiger, after he was found unresponsive the morning of June 8th.

According to authorities, Michael was involved in a disturbance with his biological brother 21-year-old Tyler M. Kiger at a residence in the 2800 west block of CR 450 North during the evening hours of Friday, June 7th.

As a result of information learned during the investigation, Detective Sergeant Adam Hannon testified at a probable cause hearing in LaPorte County Circuit Court on Monday, June 17th.

Probable cause was apparently found and an arrest warrant was issued for Tyler Kiger for the Level 5 Felony of Involuntary Manslaughter.

He was taken into custody and arrested on Tuesday, June 18th. He remains housed in the La Porte County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond through La Porte County Circuit Court.

Police say that the investigation remains active, awaiting final documentation. Therefore, no further information will be released.
