Superintendent Dan Foster Attends Final Eastern Pulaski School Board Meeting

Dan Foster

Superintendent Dan Foster attended his final school board meeting at the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation Monday evening.

After serving at EPSC for 3 years as an Assistant Principal and 6 years as Superintendent, Foster will be returning to his alma mater Southeast Fountain in Veedersburg.

He said he attended that school system from kindergarten through his senior, along with his wife. Foster added that he also has 11 years of teaching experience there. He said while it is bittersweet to leave this community behind, he is grateful for the opportunity to be closer to family in that area.

Foster shared some parting words about the people he’s had the opportunity to work with during his time at Eastern Pulaski.

He explained, “I would put the staff here at Eastern Pulaski up against almost anybody in the state. I mean, it’s just fantastic.” Foster added, “You only have to look at the tragedy that occurred here in December to get a feel for, not only the school community but the community at-large.

Foster had a recommendation for the officials who will be tasked with selecting a replacement.

He said, “To the Board, I would just encourage them to take their time. It’s a very important position and I think Eastern Pulaski has set themselves up that they’re going to have a lot of very good applicants.”

Superintendent Foster continued with some advice for his eventual successor.

He noted, “For the person coming in, I guess my biggest suggestion would be to come in and do some honest listening and, you know, don’t make a lot of changes up front, sit back, kind of listen, observe, watch, talk to people and then proceed.”

He provided a bit more guidance for the future superintendent of Eastern Pulaski.

Foster shared, “Be vested in the school, be visible, people want to see you at ball games, they want to see you at concerts.” He added, “It’s a great place, somebody is going to walk into a great position.”

In addition to approving Foster’s resignation, school board members also took action to hire a company help with the superintendent selection process. That decision will be discussed more in a future article.
