A single vehicle accident in La Porte County early Sunday morning claimed the life of a North Judson man.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the scene in the 4400 West block of State Road 8 in Prairie Township just before 5:20 a.m. CT where a green Ford F-150 truck crashed into a tree at a residence.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Upon extrication, police say they found that 58-year-old Lewis J. Hunt of North Judson died at the scene.
The investigation found that Hunt was traveling east on State Road 8 when the truck left the right side of the roadway for an extended distance, overcorrected, and then traveled back on the paved portion of the roadway, crossed the center line, and left the other side of the road striking a tree, as stated in the report.
Police say alcohol is ruled out as a factor of the crash while toxicology tests are pending as standard procedure.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department, La Porte County EMS, and the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
