Crews from the Indiana Department of Transportation announce that chip sealing operations will begin today on State Road 39 from U.S. 30 to State Road 8.
The road will be closed during that time with reopening scheduled for Tuesday. During the closure, motorists are asked to use state-maintained roads to detour the construction. U.S. 30, State Road 35 and State Road 8 may be utilized as detour roads.
Crews will distribute a liquid asphalt emulsion substance on the roadway, covered by liquid asphalt and crushed stone to provide a new surface. This should extend the life of the roadway in addition to improving surface friction and overall safety.
INDOT officials say that chip sealing is the most cost-effective way to preserve roadways.
