The Eastern Pulaski School Board members approved a small policy change concerning homeless students.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Gib Crimmins recommended the approval of the language that includes the definition of a homeless student to exclude a child or youth who is awaiting foster care. The policy states that these children or youth are no longer considered homeless under the McKinney-Vento Act.
The policy change also expands the definition of the school of origin of a homeless student to include a preschool attended by a student and other provisions regarding grade levels and completion of those grade levels.
A transportation component is also included where responsibility is outlined. The parties must work together and if a resolution is not reached, the transportation responsibility is split between parties.
The school board approved the change with a unanimous vote.
