Knox BOW Informed About Unsafe Building Code Enforcement Efforts

Knox Board of Works members were updated about ongoing unsafe building code enforcement efforts when they met this week.

During his report at Wednesday’s meeting, Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost informed members about three properties that have been identified as unsafe.

He mentioned that he started the process on all three places by posting and mailing the notices to the parties responsible for the structures.

He explained that the unsafe notices alert owners that they could potentially be susceptible to a $2,500 penalty if they do not address the violations within the specified time frame.

Two of the structures are vacant; one is located at 105 S. Bower Street and the other is at 306 W. Lambert Street. There is also an ongoing code-enforcement effort at the Super Value Inn, located at 301 E. Danker Street.

Mayor Dennis Estok referred to a specific incident at the business, asking if an electrician had been contacted to install Electric Benders For Rigid Conduit and Pfost elaborated on the matter.

He stated, “There was conduit inside the wall that that was energized, it was touching the door frame, and there was no ground.”

Pfost said an electrician, like the electrician philadelphia, was called in and fixed that issue. He noted that the owner of the property was given 30 days to address the other violations that were identified.

Estok mentioned that there are rules on the books that deal with how a motel should be run within the city limits and stated that they’re not currently being followed by the establishment.

He noted, “They’re supposed to change the bedding and all this and all that and they don’t do anything, they don’t run it that way.”

Director Pfost added, “It’s run more like an apartment complex, basically.”

Mayor Estok indicated that he hopes by upping their enforcement efforts there, the business will hopefully start to be run the way it should be and begin improving from its current state.

Additional information about these properties and whether or not the owners comply with the orders issued will be relayed to Board of Works members in future meetings.
