The Oregon-Davis School Board met Monday evening to continue a discussion concerning a proposal to restructure the corporation’s administration.
Superintendent Dr. Don Harman said after gathering more information to relay to the school board members, the same proposal was given to them for consideration. In addition to his duties as superintendent, Dr. Don Harman would be the junior/senior high school principal, agriculture teacher Andrew Carlin would become the assistant principal, while newly-hired math teacher Jerry Miller would serve as athletic director.
Dr. Harman said the recommendation is only for the 2019-2020 school year.
“The driving force behind my recommendation is the reduction of expenditures,” Dr. Harman explained. “With the way this reorganization was approved, we will be able to reduce expenditures by roughly $110,000.”
He stressed that he is seeking no additional compensation for his added duties. Dr. Harman said the savings will be reallocated toward other efforts.
“It is my hope that with this cost savings we’ll have some flexibility and opportunities to address our employees salaries and wages.”
As part of the proposed restructuring, Elementary School Principal Bill Bennett will have an added focus.
“He will assist me, but he will overseeing our K-12 curriculum. With his elementary principal experience, he will be able to focus on the transition between our fifth and sixth grade into our seventh and eighth grade.”
The board did approve the recommendation as presented. The restructuring will be on constant evaluation throughout the 2019-2020 school year with more discussion on its progress in future board meetings.
