Residents are being asked to limit activity outdoors today through Saturday due to excessive heat.
An excessive heat warning is in effect Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening. Afternoon to early evening temperatures in that time frame will be in the 90s with heat indices from around 100 to 110 degrees.
Starke County EMA Director J. Nier encourages residents to stay inside an air conditioned building. If air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor, out of the sunshine. If you have to be outside, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Drink plenty of water regularly and often even if you do not feel thirsty. Some municipalities may open cooling centers. Check on relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke could occur if you spend too much time outdoors. Keep hydrated and seek a cooler environment if you feel nauseous or dizzy.
