A clarifier rebuild project at the Knox Wastewater treatment plant has been completed.
The Board of Works provided their approval for the project to be awarded to Industrial Installations back in May.
The company submitted a bid of $12,800 which was $12,977 less than the next lowest bid that was submitted. It was also noted during that meeting that Industrial Installations had done work for the City in the past.
When the BOW met last week, Wastewater Department Superintendent Kelly Clemons informed them what the project entailed and noted that crews fixed an additional issue as well.
She explained, “They replaced the braces, bearings, gaskets, seals; they did an additional seal that wasn’t in that bid. On the drive motor we had a seal there, so while they had everything a part they went ahead and replaced that because it was leaking.”
In addition to discussing the clarifier rebuild, Superintendent Clemons briefly touched on the headworks project.
She noted that a box with equipment documents was received so she’ll be looking over those to start the pre-selection process. Clemons also mentioned that she would be reviewing drawings related to the work that will be done.
Mayor Dennis Estok informed members and officials that the bid opening for that project will be held during the next Board of Works meeting on Wednesday, August 28th.
As a reminder, the City was awarded a $700,000 matching grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs to make upgrades to the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s pre-treatment system and headworks.
