West Central Middle/High School Principal Scott Ritchie informed the school board members last week that he’s proposing a special senior trip this year.
“We’re looking at New York City,” said Ritchie. “We have nothing official until I gauge interest so see if it’s even doable. We’re looking at taking 20 students and partnering with my wife’s school where they’ll try and get 20 students to go to New York City.”
Ritchie said that he and his wife run the trips which will save money. They have been to New York City with these types of trips many times.
“It would be things like the 911 Museum, One World Trade, Statue of Liberty, grab a Yankees game or a Mets game, we’ll do Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge and under the Brooklyn Bridge, ferry-up to 34th Street and bring it across, Macy’s Madison Square Garden, Chelsea Market and those types of things.”
The five-day cost per student is about $900 which covers transportation, breakfast, lunch, and staying at Times Square. Ritchie said an aggressive fundraising campaign will need to be held, but that will be decided when interest in the trip is determined.
If plans move forward, the trip will occur during the third week of April.
