Winamac Officials Approve Letter of Intent for Friends of the Panhandle Pathway

The Friends of the Panhandle Pathway group will be seeking grant funding through the Governor’s Next Level Trails Program. Member Fred Kasten recently came before Winamac Town Council members, asking them to sign off on a Letter of Intent.

After reviewing the document, Town Attorney Justin Schramm had one recommendation.

He explained, “The only thing that I want to see in the letter of intent is a stipulation that it’s non-binding.”

Schramm continued, “It does state in the first paragraph that all the Town is saying by signing it is that they’re interested in working with you guys in order to obtain the grant. I just want to make sure that we include in our motion, on the record, that we’re not promising to sell property at a later point.”

A motion to approve the LOI, with Attorney Schramm’s suggested stipulation, was made and passed with no opposition.

Kasten mentioned that the group is looking to work on both ends of the existing trail if they are awarded funds through the Next Level Trails program.

He said as the group has been working on the application for this round of funding, they’ve been able to secure support from the hospital, the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation, and the County Commissioners.

He mentioned that the grant application must be completed and submitted by November 1st.
