The Knox School Corporation recently submitted a request to the Board of Public Works and Safety.
Mayor Dennis Estok provided a little background information about the request when members met this week.
He noted, “Basically, Knox School Corp., as far as their project down there, they have asked to waive the building permit fees, which is pretty common from government unit to government unit, not-for-profits and all that.”
School Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart was in attendance at Wednesday’s meeting and mentioned that corporations in surrounding areas have had similar requests granted by their government entities.
He also highlighted the fact that waiving the fees will save the school thousands of dollars.
Dr. Reichhart shared, “I just appreciate the opportunity to be here. I think the fees, if we went forward and the City charged us permit fees, it would be around $5,000 total on the $20 million project.
The Board of Works members voted unanimously to waive the fees.
It was noted that Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost will be still be conducting inspections to be sure all set back requirements and other regulations are being followed for the multi-million dollar project.
