Knox BOW Updated on Main Street Properties Being Brought Into Compliance

Knox Board of Works members were updated about the progress that’s being made to address code violations at a few different properties on Main Street when they met last Wednesday.

Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost first addressed the property at 1&3 N. Main Street, owned by Pete Milev.

Pfost explained, “He got the sidewalk obstruction that goes down into the basement secured. I’m sure everybody has seen that he has a lift there and he’s been working to get the tuckpointing down. It looks like he redid the two chimneys or whatever and the next step is to get it painted but he has been making progress.”

Board of Works member Steve Dodge asked if tuckpointing on the back of the building, near the fire escape had been done and Pfost noted that hasn’t been completed yet.

Director Pfost then addressed the Starke County Republican Headquarters Building, located at 13 N. Main Street.

Pfost shared, “They’re working on getting the garage torn down. They have temporary electric service out on the utility pole where they can work without a generator and keep progressing forward on their plan to get that back torn off.”

Pfost added that there are only two individuals who have been able to tackle the project so while it may be a slow process, he is satisfied with the progress he’s seen so far.

Board member Jim Collins mentioned that the efforts being made to bring the structure into compliance are evident.

He noted, “It’s got quite a bit done for just two guys in a short period of time. They’ve been out there just about every day.”

Since Director Pfost was content with the progress being made at these properties, no further action was required.
