The Knox School Board has finalized the 2019-2020 teacher contract. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart says board members ratified the agreement with the Knox Federation of Teachers during last week’s meeting. “So teachers will be getting their raises, effective back to the beginning of August on that.,” he says.
He previously explained that teachers, on average, will see a six-percent salary increase. The new contract raises the starting base salary to almost $37,000, with the top of the salary scale at almost $62,000.
Reichhart says KFT President Travis Flora expressed his gratitude to the school board and the superintendent, while the school board thanked KFT’s leadership for having an easy negotiation session. “In the years past, before I was here, anyhow, things weren’t always as smooth as they are right now,” Reichhart says. “And we feel that’s because of the transparent relationship we have between our teachers association and the administration and the trust that we have between the two groups, as well.”
Reichhart previously said that the raises were made possible by cutting three-and-a-half teaching positions, an administrative position, and some classified staff positions, along with less expensive new teachers replacing veteran teachers who’ve retired.
