Multiple Pulaski County Agencies Respond to Fatal Accident on 421

A Francesville man was fatally injured in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on 421 on Tuesday.  

The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene of an accident on US 421, north of Francesville on October 1st.

Coroner John R. Behny pronounced 48-year-old Franklin Clemons deceased at the scene. The cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma. Next of kin has been notified.

According to information from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to the scene of the serious personal injury crash shortly before 10 a.m.

The initial investigation by Deputy Michelle Jackson determined that 37-year-old Joshua Overmyer was operating a 2008 Kenworth gravel truck, traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 421, north of County Road 200 South.

Clemons was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on U.S. 421 when for unknown reasons, Clemons’ vehicle reportedly drove left of the center line and collided head-on with the gravel truck being operated by Overmyer.

Overmyer was transported to Pulaski Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injury and released.

U.S. Highway 421 was closed for approximately six hours while the crash was investigated. Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were requested and assisted with the investigation.

In addition to the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff Office, agencies that responded to the scene of the accident included Indiana State Police, INDOT, Pulaski County EMS, Pulaski County EMA, Medaryville and Francesville First Responders, Medaryville and Francesville Fire Departments and Pulaski County REACT.
