Winamac Officials Hold Hearing over Additional Appropriations, Associated Ordinance Passed

The Winamac Town Council held a public hearing over additional appropriations when they met Monday night.

No comments were provided during the hearing and the council members went on to consider an associated ordinance during their regular session.

There were four appropriations listed on the ordinance and Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger explained why they were necessary.

The first appropriation was related to the Special Bequest Mooi Trust. Since it was established after the budget was created last year, Berger said she was required to appropriate some money that was requested by Town Marshal Mark Hoffman. The ordinance indicates that $10,000 will be appropriated from the Trust into the Police fund.

Another appropriation had to do with the fireworks donations. Clerk-Treasurer Berger stated there isn’t enough money built up to ask the Department of Local Government Finance to allow for a specific fund to be budgeted for that expense so they must appropriate the donated money to purchase the fireworks on annual basis. That appropriation totaled $6,167.17.

The final two appropriations were intended for the local match needed for the OCRA grant that was received for the park restroom project. To cover that cost, $65,000 was appropriated out of the Recreation Fund and $67,000 was appropriated out of the Park Gift Fund.

Members unanimously approved the ordinance authorizing the additional appropriations.
