The Starke County Election Board members plan to present a draft Vote Center plan to the Starke County Council and Commissioners in a joint meeting this afternoon.
The Election Board members held three public information sessions concerning a switch from precinct voting to Vote Centers, which gained favorable responses from those who attended the meetings. The board members, as well as the commissioners, recently approved one step in the process in approving at least seven Vote Center locations throughout the county for the convenience of the voter. Any eligible Starke County voter can vote at any of the centers in the county, assuming the plan moves forward.
Public comment on the plan will be taken until Jan. 2.
In other business today, a Veteran’s Memorial presentation is scheduled while Assessor Michelle Schouten and Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Larry Wickert will discuss tax abatements. An additional appropriation and transfer request will be presented by Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin, while other transfer requests will be considered for the Recorder’s Office, IT Department, Purdue Extension and Auditor. Two appointments are also expected to be made to the Marshall-Starke Board and the City of Knox Economic Development Commission.
The Starke County Council and Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. CT today in the ground floor meeting room of the Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
The commissioners will meet in a single session following the joint session where they are expected to go over the first reading of the environmental nuisance ordinance.
