Pulaski County Commissioners to Consider IT Proposals, Interview Prospective Directors

Pulaski County Commissioners: Mike McClure, Jerry Locke, Kenny Becker

The Pulaski County Commissioners are considering a few options, when it comes to IT services. The county’s current IT contractor, DeGroot Technology, plans to quit in January. On Monday, the commissioners heard from two companies interested in taking over.

Roeing IT Solutions is based in Lafayette but also has employees in Logansport. It’s been in business for about 40 years, has about 50 employees, and provides services to businesses and local government entities.

The commissioners also heard from independent IT consultant Mark Harvey. He told the commissioners he’s based in Royal Center, has been in business for 10 years, and has done work for a few agricultural cooperatives, attorney’s offices, and a municipality. Harvey currently works on his own but plans to hire a part-time employee.

Both companies said they would charge a base price based on the number of devices. The commissioners agreed to let them work with DeGroot to examine the county’s current system and quote a price.

The commissioners said that other companies have also expressed interest. They’re also considering hiring an in-house IT director. They agreed to advertise the job opening and to start holding interviews on December 9.

Commissioner Mike McClure stressed the importance of having good IT service. “We had things going pretty good, and that fell through,” he said. “We went through two or three years of terrible IT service, and we want our office-holders and the community to be comfortable with having good internet service.” But he acknowledged that the county’s limited budget remains a challenge.
