When the West Central School Board discussed and approved the proposed teacher contract for 2019-2020 Superintendent Dan Zylstra noted that the Teacher’s Union President presented information on a program for students in need.
“They created a Comfort Closet that includes personal items, toiletries and other things for some of our students,” said Zylstra. “It’s a great program that they’ve established. They’re looking for donations to help with that too.”
The idea is to provide students with items that they might not be able to get outside of school. The student may anonymously select items to help them in their everyday lives.
Some of the suggested non-food items that can be donated include shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, hair brushes, and feminine products. Snack donations may consist of apple sauce, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, canned vegetables, cereal, macaroni and cheese, pudding cups, jerky, packaged tuna, pasta, trail mix, and cookies to name a few.
