Town of Winamac employees won’t be getting pay raises in 2020 but they might get some extra insurance benefits. Town Manager Brad Zellers told the town council Monday that health insurance quotes came in almost $39,000 less than last year’s.
“I’d like to see what the possibilities would be – it’s going to cost us $8,900, ballpark, to provide general dentistry and vision to the employees,” he said. “And at that, we’ve still got almost a $30,000 savings.”
Council members voted to add the new insurance coverage but warned that it might have to be removed again in the future, if prices go back up. Zellers added that it’s just a little bonus for town employees who want to get dental implants or teeth cleaning. Zellers said the employee handbook will have to be updated to reflect the change, and Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger said it will be incorporated into the salary ordinance the council will consider next month.
