Students and staff at the Culver Community School Corporation recently participated in a fundraiser that made more than $1,000 for the Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation.

Middle/High School Secretary and Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Tammy Shedrow shared that the girls’ basketball team was recently raising money for the organization. Shedrow also noted that staff members James Hafley, Michelle Fobert, Mike Buschman, Shane Lowry, Kyle Klinge and Brett Berndt participated.

They each had jars that were set out at lunchtime and during games and there was a friendly competition to see who could raise the most money. The ‘winner’ was expected to receive a pie in the face during lunchtime at the conclusion of the fundraiser.

On December 13th, Middle/High School Principal Brett Berndt took one for the team and got a face full of pie after raising more than $300 for the initiative.

According to the Schools’ social media page on Tuesday night National Honor Society President Anna Blocker, girls’ basketball player Maddie Shedrow and Building Trades student Drake Gross presented a check totaling $1,367.03 to Cheryl’s father Harold Welter.

This charitable organization has an endowment established for the purpose of providing grants to local schools to help underprivileged children in grades K-12 pay for small things that may be out of their reach.

The funds can be used for a number of reasons such as paying for field trips, school supplies, practice packs for athletes and other scholastic items. It is intended to help keep teachers from having to pay for these items out of pocket.
