Hamlet May Explore Fee Increases in 2020

The Town of Hamlet may be looking at raising fees in 2020. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told the town council Wednesday that meetings will have to be held in January to look at ways to increase revenue.

She noted that water rates have only gone up once in the past eight years. Pitts said the water fund is in better shape than it was, but still isn’t where it should be. “We started the Water Operating Fund with negative $14,000, and we’re ending with negative $7,000,” she explained. “So we are doing much better, and Kevin has fixed a lot of meters. I think Kevin is down to like 10 meters.”

The town council unanimously approved the 2020 water and sewer budgets and approved a series of budget transfers to balance out line items at the end of the 2019 budget year.
