Hamlet Town Council Approves GIS Agreement to Meet IDEM Requirement

The Hamlet Town Council took action Wednesday to make sure employees can access the GIS map for the town’s utility infrastructure. Council members approved an agreement with WTH Technology. It will cost the town $500 a year to put the software on the street superintendent’s computer.

The GIS mapping ability is something that’s being required by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, according to Street Superintendent Kevin Leinbach. He explained that if an emergency were to happen while he’s on vacation, for example, others would be able to use the GIS map to find the exact location of water shutoffs or other pieces of equipment. Leinbach said that all other concerns IDEM noted during a recent visit have already been corrected.

In other business Wednesday, the town council approved the town’s 2020 holiday schedule. Town officials said there are no major changes from this year’s. Council members also approved almost $2,000 in repairs to a Police Department SUV.
