The Knox Board of Works members voted to issue another order for rehabilitation of the home at 306 W. Lambert Street.
Knox Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board members last week that he successfully applied for and received an inspection warrant for the property. He said he served that warrant on Dec. 20 and found that the home wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be. He noted that the structure seemed to be fairly sound with a little bit of water damage. The majority of the roof is covered by a tarp where water damage can be seen by the skylight. The property is winterized.
Pfost said furniture and garbage still exist from before the time the owners passed away.
The property is in the ownership of Fifth Third Bank in Ohio. Pfost commented that he and City Attorney Autumn Ferch are having a hard time contacting the person overseeing this property.
The property is currently on a list for certificate sale in March.
A public hearing on the matter was held in September concerning this property where Ferch indicated that the only action taken was to direct Pfost to get a hold of the bank. She said bank representatives were not in attendance at the public hearing and no communication has been made with the bank who owns the property. She recommended that the rehabilitation order be reissued and schedule another public hearing so action can be taken. That recommendation was formed into a motion and unanimously approved.
The initial order states that the owner must rehabilitate the roof, seal the structure from vermin and repair the siding which will be discussed at the public hearing planned for the board’s next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 9:30 a.m.
