New Recycling Schedule for Knox Residents East of Highway 35 Starts Today

Starting today, Knox residents who live east of Highway 35 and receive trash pick-up on Mondays will start following a new recycling schedule.

Through the end of the year, residents in this area will have their recycling picked up today as well as on Wednesday, December 18th.

Due to the 1st of the year falling on a Wednesday, the first recycling pick-up in 2020 for these residents will be on Thursday, January 2nd. Trash will continue to be picked up every Monday, with the exception of holidays.

Meanwhile, individuals on the west side of Highway 35 will have no changes to either schedule; recycling for those residents will be picked up on the same alternating Wednesdays and garbage will continue to be collected on Thursdays.

There are a few exceptions where trash will be collected on Fridays for these residents such as on Friday, January 3rd, May 29th, September 11th and November 27th of next year.

Residents to the west of Highway 35 will have recycling picked up next week on Wednesday, December 11th and with the Christmas holiday falling on a Wednesday, it won’t be picked up again until Thursday, December 26th.

The first recycling pick-up of 2020 for residents in this area will be on Wednesday, January 8th.

In the past, Waste Management crews were collecting all of the City’s recycling on the same alternating Wednesdays each month. However, increased participation resulted in that system no longer being feasible.

Back in October, City Council members approved Waste Management’s recommendation to pick up recycling every single Wednesday and split up the routes in order to better service customers.
