The annual Peppermint Parade event was discussed during this week’s Knox City Council meeting.
Mayor Dennis Estok extended gratitude to everyone who helped out last Saturday.
He noted, “I want to thank all of the volunteers in the Peppermint Parade. I think we had a great turnout this year, everything went great and had a lot of good compliments from the people.”
Councilwoman Bertha Blue and Council President Ron Parker provided some feedback as well.
She mentioned, “They had some nice floats.” Parker added, “Everybody did really good.” Blue continued, “I think our churches in our community, they need to be thanked because they really come out for something like that.”
Mayor Estok agreed and said that all of this year’s participants seemed like they put a lot of work into their entries and that it showed.

Estok went on to share a story about a couple of new residents who approached him during the event.
He explained, “I got a comment from some senior citizens who just moved to Knox. They love it here. They said we’re like a little Hallmark […] movie and they made sure they connected with me down at the park and they love the City and the parade and down there, they just couldn’t believe it.”
Mayor Estok mentioned that he valued their input and indicated that their comments show that the City of Knox is heading in a direction where the quality of life and quality of place are being improved.
He noted, “Like I’ve always said, I want people that come through Knox to look at it and say, you know that’s a community I could really live in and a good example of that is that senior citizen couple from Plymouth, Indiana who ended up moving here.”
Estok said a lot of progress has been made over the last few years and he wants to keep that momentum going. He said he intends to hold a meeting in the near future so officials and community members can start mapping out future plans.
