The La Porte City Police Department began a two-week traffic safety patrol effort on Friday, Dec. 20 that will continue through Jan. 6.
According to La Porte Police Captain Patrick Hemphill, patrol officers will be working in all areas of La Porte with the primary focus on enforcing seat belt and child restraint laws. This will be in addition to regular duties of enforcing all traffic laws.
Funding for the 35 hours of enforcement efforts will be paid through the Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program. CHIRP is funded with federal highway safety funds and is administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
